La Casita

Located on Washtenaw Ave.

It is not easy to find coming from Ann Arbor you probably won't see it, it is in the same complex as Planet Fitness, on the back of the Subway building!

I am in love with this place! I lived in Tijuana, Mexico for three months last year and ever since I have been trying to find an authentic Mexican restaurant, and I finally found it! This place makes me feel like I am back in Mexico every time I walk through the door! From the glass bottled soda to the amazing food and complimentary chips this place is great!

The guacamole is amazing and a big helping is only $1.00
Quesadillas are only $1.75
Their chicken flautas meal is amazing and only $6.99
The fajita salad is great and only $6.99

My Carne Asada Torta : $5.50

My boyfriend's burrito : Under $7.99

Tower Inn Pizza - Ypsilanti

When they get it right, Tower Inn makes my favorite pizza in Ypsi, I love the pizza so much I have yet to try anything else! So far, howeer, out of the 5+ times we have gone to Tower Inn only one waitress has gotten our order correct, granted we do get a little specific with our pizza order, but it's all on the menu! The wait staff is very friendly and attentive even with our order issues.
So here's our pizza:

  • Large Pizza
  • Bolognese Sauce
  • Garlic Oil Crust
  • Regular Mozzarella Cheese
  • Half
    • Chicken
    • Bacon
    • Roasted Garlic
    • Fire Roasted Tomatoes
  • My Half
    • Double Ham
    • Roasted Garlic
    • Spinach

The Bolognese sauce is delicious with rest of the toppings, it's just an extra special touch that really makes the pizza! There are other sauce and crust combinations as well for those who want to try something new!

*Update! I was a little let down with their beer menu, went in for happy hour the other night they don't have any "Regular Beers (bud light etc.) at least not right now, even though they were on the menu. I usually can find a good import or something I like but there wasn't anything. HOWEVER they make a mean margarita for a non-Mexican restaurant! I had a raspberry one and it was awesome! Their happy hour is great 1/2 off drinks and appetizers!

Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger

I am in love with the greasy goodness that is Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger! My boyfriend and I go about every other week (maybe more sometimes!) we're hooked! This is the kind of home town favorite that I am glad we found so fast after our move to Ypsilanti! Located in Ann Arbor right by the University of Michigan campus. When you walk in to Blimpy Burger you hop in line at the grill - if you are dining in you must have a tray! You have to place your order in a specific order:
  1. Grab a pop from the case, they have a large selection of old fashion soda pop (in the glass bottles) yum! They also have fountain drinks.
  2. Anything from the frier? Fries, Mushrooms, broccoli, other fresh veggies
  3. How many patties you want (minimum of 2 patties)
  4. Anything from the grill? Grilled onions, mushrooms, peppers, egg, bacon, etc.
  5. What kind of bun? Kaiser Roll, Regular, Onion
  6. Slide on down and get your toppings, they have most anything!
  7. To finish you off the "Grill guy" will ask you what kind of cheese you want before he wraps up your delicious burger!
This burger could easily cause heart failure, but it is amazing. If you aren't worried about a little extra grease Blimpy Burger is worth a trip, I'm salivating just thinking about it, I also think I have a little heartburn thinking about it! So here's what I get:
  • Stewart's Black Cherry Soda
  • Deep fried heavenly Mushrooms
  • Triple Burger - On a Kaiser Roll
  • Onions, Mushrooms and Bacon
I leave Blimpy Burger feeling full and completely satisfied, the flavors play wonderfully together and leave me feeling warm and cuddly! Perfect comfort food! If you are a girl heading out on a date - suggest Blimpy Burger you will find your man's heart here, my boyfriend would go every night if I agreed to! Delicious Fresh Greasy goodness!

Sidetrack Bar and Grill - Ypsilanti, Mi

In September 2012 I visited the Sidetrack Grill in Depot Town, Yipsilanti, Mi. Sidetrack is famous for their burgers and has been on Opra (generally good food advice) and several news shows so we had to stop! I got their 1/3 lb burger with, bacon, avacado, queso, and marinated portabella.

I had high expectations, and I was sadly let down. I was amazed to find that I found a far better burger in Wooster, Ohio my home town earlier last week at Muddy Waters grill the 50/50 burger was inspired and beyond amazing read post on that for more. My burger at Sidetrack was just normal ground beef, barely seasoned, cooked perfectly, with decent ingredients. My fries, tasted like I was drinking a pint of strong beer, if you like that the fries were amazing if not, not so much.

Plus note the last line for two of us burger and fries, I had a pop it was $34.00, my delicious 50/50 burger in rural Ohio was $23.00 for the two of us!

Here were my quick notes right after we ate:
Meat- ok
Bacon- amazing
Fries- beer!
Avacado- fresh slices
Queso- American
Portabella- big good
Bun- good nothing special ok toasted
2 for $34 plus tip

New in town, and ready to eat.

I'm in my twenties and on a medium sized budget, we don't have a lot but we do love to eat out. I love food, and I am picky about my food. I like a clean kitchen, friendly service, and food prepared like it is ordered. I have worked as a waitress and hostess in multiple restaurants I understand the business and expect good service! That being said I am also a firm believer in TIPPING WELL! Seriously! Tip your server, even if they are bad tip them, we all have off days. I will, however, admit that if someone is blatantly rude or overwhelmingly terrible I have been known to leave a penny (only twice!). So here is my exploration of the best and worst of the Ypsi area, I will also post from vacation in case you like to travel!

I will post about EVERWHERE I eat from ihop to the pizza kitchen around the corner to fine dining, I like to keep it varied and there is good food (and bad food) everywhere! I will be as honest as possible and I would love your comments! Tell me if I found somewhere on an off night or tried the wrong dish!
